Predictions and Favorites
Today, Brazil and Mexico went to the round of 16 in Group A with Brazil topping the group. Holland and Chile also went through in Group B, with Holland topping the group. These are my predictions for which teams we will see in the knockout phase of the World Cup.
Group C- Columbia and Ivory Coast with Columbia topping the group
Group D- Costa Rica and Italy with Costa Rica topping the group
Group E-France and Switzerland with France topping the group
Group F- Argentina and Nigeria with Argentina topping the group
Group G- Germany and U.S. with Germany topping the group
Group H- Belgium and Algeria with Belgium topping the group
These are my contenders to win it all at the Maracana and why.
Italy- They have Andrea Pirlo, who at the tender age of 35, can change the game with one pass or set piece. They also have Balotelli, who can be frustrating at times, but when he is in the mood, can be a devastating player
France- They have 3 of the world's brightest talents(Griezmann, Pogba, and Varane). They have Benzema, who already has 3 goals and can lead the team all the way with his goals. They also have height on set pieces, which is going to be vital
Argentina- They have Lionel Messi, the best player in the world and arguably of all time. He has the ability to carry the team on his soldiers the whole way. He can score magical goals, pick out extravagant passes, and can go on stupendous runs. If Messi leads Argentina to victory, he will be the best player who has ever walked this Earth. They also have the trio of Di Maria, Sergio Aguero, and Gonzalo Higuain, who all have the ability to change the game at any minute with a moment of brilliance. They would be easily considered as one of the best attacks in the tournament without Messi, so with Messi, there is no doubt about it
Germany- They don't have any one player that stands out in their team, but what they do have is team spirit and understanding within the team. Anyone within the team can score, so they don't have to rely on 1 player scoring all the goals
Belgium- Belgium is the dark horse for me because they have so much depth and cover for every single position. They have one of the best players in the world in Eden Hazard, who can create lots of goals and score a few as well. They have promising youngsters Divrock Origi and Adnan Januzaj, who can both come of the bench and make an impact as well as start from the beginning and influence the game. Thye have a world class backline, with Kompany, Van Buyten, Vermalen, Vertonghen, and Alderwield. They have the best goalie in the world for me in Thibaut Courtois. The midfield is pure class, with Fellaini, De Bruyne, Dembele, Mertens, and Chadli just being a few. If they can get the understanding, there is no doubt that they can win the tournament
Brazil- They are the host nation, and the fans are expecting them to do nothing except win the World Cup. They have Neymar, who is the tournament's leading scorer with 4 goals. He showed today that he is up there alongside Messi and Ronaldo as the best players in the world. Whenever he has the ball, expect the unexpected. They have arguably the best backline in the tournament, with Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Dani Alves, Marcelo being the starters, and Dante, Maicon, and Maxwell providing cover. The midfield is an engine, boasting Pauliniho, Luiz Gustavo, Fernandiniho, and Ramires. The attack has Neymar, Hulk, Bernard, and Willian. The centre forward position is the only issue, with Fred and Jo being the only ones. If they can play like they did today, they can certainly win it all
Netherlands- They have the amazing trio that consists of Robben, Van Persie, and Sneijder. If those three play like they have been doing, they may be in with a chance. They also have the young Memphis Depay, who has scored 2 in 2 so far in the world cup. He can come off the bench in a time of need and score goals. They have a solid midfield and backline as well. If Netherlands' attack clicks like it did against Spain, they might be back in the final like last time, except this time, they might win itPr
