Barcelona vs Deportivo
Barcelona beat Deportivo on Saturday, March 9. Barcelona didn't start with their strongest team because of the AC Milan clash on Tuesday. The big news was that Lionel Messi didn't start. I always want Lionel Messi to play, especially this game. He is on a brilliant run, scoring in 16 consecutive games in La Liga. I am a huge supporter of Barcelona. They started normally, playing Tiki Taka. Deportivo's goalie was having a brilliant game. Tello did a cross with his left foot, it came off a defender, and the goalie tipped it on to the post. Later, David Villa missed a glorious opportunity, as he was clean through on goal, one on one with the keeper. He could have done anything, probably slide it past the keeper. Insted he waited for the goalkeeper to commit but he didn't. Then he decided to chip it, but the goalie made yet another wonderful save. Again, the goalie came to Deportivo's rescue. Thiago did a brilliant piece of skill, and did a wonderful through pass. Tello tried to go past the goalie, but the goalie denied them again. In the last 15 minutes of the first half, Barca upped the tempo. Finally, the broke the deadlock. Dani Alves provided a great cross for Alexis Sanches to head home. The goalie got a hand to it, but couldn't keep it out. After the break, they took their foot of the gas. Right on the hour mark, the great man, Messi, came on. Soon after that, Iniesta and Busquets came on. It was a dress rehearsal for the game on Tuesday. They changed the game completely. Right before the game ended, Messi continued his brilliant run of form. He went past two defenders, played a one two with Sanchez, and chipped the ball over the keeper. He broke a world record at that moment. He is he first person to ever score in 17 consecutive league matches. I am losing track on how many records this man is breaking.
The game ended 2-0 in favor of Barca.
